Solidarity without borders – What is happening in Belarus right now?

5. Juli 2021 @ 18:00 20:00

VERSCHOBEN AUF DEN 05.07.!

The protests of the democracy movement against Lukashenka, who illegitimately made himself president after a sham election, have been going on in Belarus since 2020.

The students in Belarus represent a particularly driving force within the democracy movement under Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. Leaders of the Belarusian National Student Union (BSA) are among the 400 political prisoners and refugees. Perhaps most famously Alana Gebremariam, member of the Coordination Council of Tsikhanouskaya and leader of BSA.

With one of those students we want to find out more about the situation in Belarus and especially of students and academics.

At the beginning there will be a short input about the backstory of Belarus in order to be able to classify the current situation. Then a board member of the Belarusian National Student Union will report on the current situation in Belarus in general as well as on the situation of the imprisoned students and fugitive students . Afterwards there is room for questions and discussion. With the Aktionsbündnis Belarus we will also be able to reflect upon the possibilities how we as Germans and especially as students can do solidary work to support or peers in Belarus.

Hosted by fzs & Aktionsbündnis Belarus

The event takes place in English. In order to participate a registration is necessary. The event will partially be streamed on YouTube – the discussion with you, the participants, will not be streamed!
